DB Move SQL 2005 to 2008 RRS feed

  • Hello,

    whats the best way to migrate all DBs on MS SQL 2005 Server to a seperate MS SQL 2008 Server
    including all of the Logins and users with rights to the DBS. There are any articles out?

  • If you don't want to do an in-place upgrade you can use either attach/detach or backup/restore to migrate. You will also need to separately transfer and sync. logins, as well as jobs etc.

    Remember there can be many dependencies you need to setup first (i.e. backup paths, external application changes etc). Make sure you plan it out and include tests to confirm the migration was successful.
