  • Question

  • Hi all ,

we have reporting service installed and configured on sever A , know for another set of data we need to point the reports to Server B  and reporting services is not installed on that server B.

do we need linked server to be setup from server A to server B .

If not we can create a datasource connection directly for that server

  • Ok, now this should be easy as long as you can somehow connect to server b. You have to create a data source with a proper connection string and set the report's datasource to this new one. You can create a new datasource from the report manager and you can change the datasource for a report from the Report Manager clicking on the report and selecting DataSource from the left of the screen. If you want all reports to change to "point" to server B you can edit the original datasource to point to server B. if you have a correct datasource and still you cannot connect, check the protocols enabled on server b from configuration tool.

  • You have reports that yoou want to draw from both A and B?

Or do you have some reports that need to draw data from B whereas others get data from A? Also are A and B in the same network? I mean can you directly connect to B server through named pipes or TCP or whatever other protocol?

The first answer anyhow is that server B doesn't need to have RSS installed in any case for the scenario you describe.

  • Sorry for the questions but I am missing the point. You mean you need A and B operating as Report Servers, rendering reports, or you want reports rendered from server A to be querying server B and server A?
