Is SQL 2005 have a option to export data with the encryption? RRS feed

  • Hi,

    I want to know if i can set a option in sql 2005 to backup the data with password protection or encryption.?

    PS: I can't not upgrade the version right now.

    No backup encryption is not possible in SQL Server 2005. For securing backup with password you can do it but it is really not that *secured*. As a matter of fact from SQL Server 2012 onward it has been removed

    But note, this feature is discontinued since version 2012.

    SO what will happen if i want to restore the pwd protected backup in 2012 or later version its just for GK. Thanks

    That's still possible to restore a Password protected backup, see BACKUP (Transact-SQL) => "Beginning with SQL Server 2012 (11.x), the PASSWORD and MEDIAPASSWORD options are discontinued for creating backups. It is still possible to restore backups created with Passwords."
