Search database for existing entries

Hi all,

I asked a similar question yesterday, but I didn't get the response I needed, so I thought I'd rephrase my question.

I am new to programming of any kind and am using VWD with VB and SQL with an Access Database to write a Web Application.

On the click of the button, I need to search my database to see if an entry exists, and if it doesn't create an entry with specific values, then display these values in a GridView.

I am totally stuck and would really appreciate some help.

Let me know how you want to search existing records? Either some sql script or some other way.
