How do I get the "extended" touch keyboard layout back? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I just had to perform a "refresh" of my Samsung slate.

Before that, I had somehow managed to have the touch keyboard use an "extended" layout similar to a desktop keyboard.

After the refresh, I'm back to a limited layout e.g. where clicking on Ctrl brings up a keyboard where the functions of Ctrl+U/I/A/Z/X/C/V/B are displayed above the corresponding letters, that has a "smiley" key left of the spacebar, etc.

How do I get the extended/standard layouts back?

Note: on a desktop machine with Dev Preview installed, clicking on the "language" (bottom right) icon in the touch keyboard gives me 4 choices: simplified layout, "thumbs" layout, handwritten recognition, extended layout. On my slate, I don't have the 4th choice...

Under Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Language\Advanced settings there's a checkbox called "Enable the compatibility touch keyboard."

Check it, and voilà, the 4th option is added.
