Transport databases to a different physical server/instance, script out all logins, server permissions and roles or simply restore MASTER DB RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi folks:

I understand that MSFT has a doc to show how to transport logins , also plenty of references introducing Powershell to transport logins, server level permissions and roles....

I  am wondering if  restoring MASTER DB could be good enough? ?  Using SQLCMD for sure.

  • Hi Hui,

Per your scenario, you want to transport system-level information by restoring Master DB. Based on this, if the version of your SQL Server is above SQL Server 2016, the feature is available. For more information, please refer to Restore the master Database.
