Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. c:\windows\system32\msdt.exe RRS feed

  • Question

  • First of all, I apologize for posting in the wrong forum, but I couldn't find one that was appropriate

    Windows Server 2019 v1803, Build 17763.1131

    I have tried:

dism (said it fixed things - no unresolved errors)

sfc (said it fixed things - no unresolved errors)

I am logged on as domain administrator. (whoami shows mydomain\administrator)

A further suggestion is to 'fix' the folder permissions for the system32 directory

    - properties of the folder shows Special permissions as the ONLY allowed entry (there are no denials)

    - properties for Users shows Allow for Read & Execute, List folder contents, and Read

Not a single entry in list shows Full Control privilege (not even Trusted Installer)

If I instead look at the permissions on the c:\windows folder, again no entry has Full control allowed,

and if I select the administrators group I can't change any permissions (for obvious reasons!)

Please advise and thanks in advance!
