Is dataview a suitable replacement for custom webparts

Question

Hi,

This is more of an "asking for a suggestion forum" than "asking for an answer".

We have this site which needs to be migrated into Sharepoint 2010, along with its custom components. The custom components in this site are custom webparts all of which, more of less implements the same thing, querying from custom lists and showing some data. Also these webparts, are used only in this one site collection,and hence does not have the edge of being re-usable webparts. Now we have been suggested to migrate these webparts in the best way possible.

The one solution that we found is the Dataview webpart, which pretty much suffices the functionality of all these custom webparts.

So my question here is is that the right thing to do, to use dataview webparts instead of custom webparts, or if there is any other better way to do it ?

I'm a big fan of the data view web part, you can do almost anything with it. I created some videos of how to use it at

Todd,

Just a thing here, that we have figured out and also implemented all our webparts using Data View Webpart.

So the question is, from an architecture and performence, point of view is that the right thing to do.
