Information for Exchange 2013 Preview and Outlook 2013 Preview:

The documents were updated to include preliminary applicability and implementation details for Exchange 2013 Preview and Outlook 2013 Preview. For information about differences between versions, see the behavior notes that are included in the Product Behavior appendix of each document. Note that a technology might change between preliminary and final document versions, and there are risks in relying on preliminary documentation.

The following new specifications were added to the Exchange Server Protocols documents:

    • [MS-OXWSARCH] : Archiving Web Service Protocol Specification. This document specifies a protocol that enables clients to use a Web service to implement item-level archiving of a mailbox.
    • [MS-OXWSCEXT] : Client Extension Web Service Protocol Specification. This document specifies a protocol that enables clients to use a Web service to retrieve and disable client extensions.
    • [MS-OXWSCOS]: Unified Contact Store Web Service Protocol Specification. This document specifies a protocol that enables clients to use a Web service to create, retrieve, update, and delete instant messaging contacts and groups.
    • [MS-OXWSEDISC]: Electronic Discovery (eDiscovery) Web Service Protocol Specification. This document specifies a protocol that enables clients to use a Web service to implement legal compliance holds, get user hold settings, and search for mailboxes.
    • [MS-OXWSGNI]: Nonindexable Item Web Service Protocol Specification. This document specifies a protocol that enables a client to use a Web service to retrieve mailbox items that cannot be indexed.
    • [MS-OXWSPERS]: Persona Web Service Protocol Specification. This document specifies a protocol that enables clients to use a Web service to find and retrieve linked contacts.
    • [MS-OXWSPHOTO]: Photo Web Service Protocol Specification. This document specifies a protocol that enables clients to use a Web service to request an image that represents a mailbox, typically a photo of the mailbox owner.
    • [MS-OXWSSMBX]: Site Mailbox Web Service Protocol Specification. This document specifies a protocol that enables clients to use a Web service to set the lifecycle state of a site mailbox or unpin it from the client.
    • [MS-OXWSURPT]: Retention Tag Web Service Protocol Specification. This document specifies a protocol that enables clients to use a Web service to retrieve retention policy information for items in a mailbox.

The following known issues exist in the July 2012 release:

    1. Underscore characters are not always visible in code in the PDF files depending on the magnification selected by the user. Those characters are present in printed versions.
    2. Information in a table row may split across two pages.
    3. Table borders are not always visible depending upon the magnification selected by the user. Borders are present in printed versions of the PDF.
    4. Cross-protocol links are only functional when the PDF files for the protocols are in the same folder.
    5. For optimal readability of the PDF documents, we recommend that they be opened and viewed by using Adobe Reader 10.0.
    6. Links in the PDFs do not resolve in Adobe Reader 9 because Adobe has changed the default setting for view mode in Adobe Reader 9.
To access links, perform the following procedure:
      1. In Adobe Reader 9, go to the Edit menu and click Preferences.
      2. In the Categories list, click Documents.
      3. Under PDF/A View Mode, change the selection from Only for PDF/A documents to Never, and click OK.
Additional details on changing the setting can be located via the Adobe help site:
