Concerning of installing .NET framework 4.0 on a running system in customer side. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have delivered a tool developed based on .NET 4.0. Customer has used it for a while and now they want a same tool based on .NET 3.5

I suggest they can install a standalone .NET 4.0, the tool can be used again and need not development

Meanwhile the source code for .NET 4.0 is lost for some reason.

I want your help to analysis why customer refuse to install .NET 4.0 standalone. What are they worried about installing .NET 4.0 on their running system?

Have you asked this customer why they are resisting .NET 4.0? Are they running obsolete Windows versions?

IMO, it would be very difficult for anybody here to guess why this customer might object to .NET 4.0 without more information from your side.

"the source code for .NET 4.0 is lost for some reason"

How do you plan to maintain your tool for existing customers?
