MCP, MSDN and Live ID (Passport) Problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Live ID (Passport) for ages.

I am a member of MSDN connection with my Live ID.

I am passed my first ever MCP exam.

I received my MCP IP and access code.

I try to link my MCP ID to my Live ID.

    It didn't work!!!

    I called the Customer Services.

They told me that I cannot use my usual Live ID to link my MCP ID, because it has MSDN.

I have to create a new one.

Well, I created a new Live ID for my MCP account. It works now.

However, what the point of using one Live ID to do everything?

  • I have exactly the same problem registering my windows live id to my MCP, just because my windows live id is already used for MSDN. I thought windows live id is meant to be a single sign on in which you can use to access everything microsoft.

  • I have trouble accessing https://mcp.microsoft.com, but https://www.microsoft.com/learning/members/en/us/mcp/mcp-default.aspx opens normally although it's not very findable.

  • Hmm this is the first I'm hearing of this.  I don't work on the MCP site, so I don't know why they would have this limitation, but it is confusing...

Lets try pulling the MSDN Subscription from your Live ID temporarily and then adding it back after.

    Here's what to do:
    1) go to the My Account page on http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions
    2) log in with your Live ID if you're not already
    3) write down your subscription information (first name, last name, email address, subscriber id AS THEY APPEAR on the My Account page, and save it somewhere)
    4) click the "remove this subscription" option.  Confirm that you do want to remove it.
    5) re-attempt the MCP signup process.
    6) after its working, go here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/add
    7) enter the info you saved in step 3
    8) see if it works

This sounds more like a policy issue and not a technical one, because subscriptions tend not to conflict with other sites, but I am not sure.

let me know what you find out.

    Thanks,
    Mike
