Code signing problem "the 'publisher' attribute is invalid" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using my comodo code signing certificate, the one I've used for many win32/.net apps. However for Win Store apps the following error occurs:

File content does not conform to specified schema. The 'Publisher' attribute is invalid - The value 'CN=Piko Computing Consultants, O=Piko Computing Consultants, STREET=8 Hedline Place, L=Macleod, S=Victoria, PostalCode=3085, C=AU' is invalid according to its datatype 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/appx/2010/manifest:ST_Publisher' - The Pattern constraint failed. C:\Users\Paul\Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Projects\test\test\bin\Debug\AppxManifest.xml

This publisher info is auto generated in the AppxManifest from my selected pfx file.

Is there any solution/work-around for this?

  • there a known bug that causes that postalcode isnt supported, you need to ask for a certificate without the postal code see: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsapps/en-US/27b5ff8c-407f-49a3-bbd6-dc95d67f4175/code-signing-issue

  • Thanks Dave.

From that thread, the bug was filed almost a year ago by a MS Manager... it seems odd to have to get a Certifcate Authority to reissue a certifcate because of a bug. Has there been no fix since?

Also from that thread it seems I won't have much joy getting the certificate reissued because "Comodo says that they can't re-issue the certificate without PostalCode." Looks like I'm stuck...
