saved shared data source credentials lost after restart RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently installed Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2005, and now my saved credentials for my shared data sources in my Reporting Services project are gone every time I restart my computer. I have to enter the specific User Name and Password into the Credentials tab every day for each shared data source. This problem never occurred before I installed SQL Server 2005 SP3, and now my co-workers are afraid to install it on their machines. The server already has SP3 installed. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

  • Hi rschmitz,

I do not recall us changing any code around the credentials in BIDS for SP3. The best way to get the product team to look at your problem is to file a connect bug at http://connect.microsoft.com. We will respond, hopefully with a solution.

  • Has this been fixed?  I couldn't find anything in Connect and didn't want to duplicate the problem if I was just searching incorrectly.  I am having this same problem and it's getting old to have to reinput user & password every day on every report solution that I work on.

  • Nope, sorry Bobette. I followed Brad's instructions to submit a bug, and although I provided all of the information Microsoft technicians have requested so far, I haven't had an update from them in two months. You can add a validation remark as three other people have done. The bug number on connect.microsoft.com is 450753. Thanks for putting in your support for this problem!

Have you heard anything else regarding this issue? I am having the same problem and it is extremely frustrating!

  • I haven't heard anything more from Microsoft. I will post a reply to the technicians requesting an update with a reference to this thread to show that more people are having this problem. The more people that we can get to post here or to post validations to the bug, the higher-profile it will receive, but I don't know how much Visual Studio 2005 is being worked on with 2008 deployed and 2010 in the works. I may be reinstalling Visual Studio to add more development extensions since I only have Reporting Services and I need C# coding abilities, so I will post a reply if the reinstall proves a viable solution.

  • I am having the same problem too.  Credentials are not stored in visual studio after a restart.  The must be re-entered upon opening the software.

  • I received this email from Microsoft on Nov. 4, 2009 regarding the issue that I submitted as a bug back in May 2009:

    Greetings from Microsoft Connect!

This notification was generated for feedback item: saved shared data source credentials lost after restart (http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=450753) which you submitted at the Microsoft Connect (http://connect.microsoft.com/) site.

Plans for SQL Server 2005 SP4 are currently unknown at this time. If this is a time sensitive issue please contact a CSS representative via http:\\support.microsoft.com (http://support.microsoft.com/) to request a personalized fix for this issue (aka, an RFC).

You may receive a general "Feedback Item Updated" notification as well, if any other changes were made by Microsoft.

Thank you for using Microsoft Connect!

    Regards,

    the Microsoft Connect Team

Even though this email mentions the upcoming SP4, it doesn't guarantee that the fix we need will be part of the service pack. Sorry about the inserted links, but there seems to be a problem with creating hyperlinks out of the text in the post. Please feel free to add a confirmation to the bug thread or to request a personalized fix from Microsoft. I hope that we do get a fix for this problem soon because I have event tried uninstalling and reinstalling Visual Studio and I still have to input the data source login names and passwords every day (or twice a day if I have to restart my computer mid-day). Happy Thanksgiving to everybody!
