converting W95 files to docx format RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I'm currently looking to start a project of formatting some old W95 files to docx format.  I'm curious if anyone has any advice on locating documentation on the W95 format.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Crisco9791,

Thank you for the question. As far as the Open Specifications go, Word 95's document format is not a part of the that document set, as you're probably already aware. To my knowledge, that specification was never published, and is not available.

Are you able to open the existing documents with newer versions of Word? It seems like that would be the simplest way to go about converting a handful of documents. I did a quick test, and I was able to open a document created with Word 95 with a newer version of Word. I did not test any complex formatting, so I don't know if conversion issues exist.

    Best regards,
