Cannot Sign-in after uninstalling/reinstalling Visual Studio (VS) 2015

    Question

  • When I could not sign-in, I uninstalled and then installed Visual Studio 2015 Enterprise version on Windows 10. This did not help.

In the upper right corner, I see the little yellow triangular danger icon (with "!" in the middle) next to the "Sign in" and the the little down arrow.

When I hover over the danger icon, I get a little empty tool tip (aka bubble text) with no text. The little down arrow highlights and also provides a little empty tool-tip bubble too.

    Why cannot I sign in?

How can I fix this so I can sign-in? I am having other problems and I am worried this could be related.

    Thanks

    Siegfried

  • Hi Siegfried,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

When you click the ‘Sign in’, did you get any error message or warning message? Please attach the screenshot in here and it will help us to analysis this issue.

To sign in VS, you can also go to Help-Register Product and there is an ‘Sign in’ button in the popup screen, please click this button to check if this issue persists or not.

If you cannot sign in with your Microsoft account, to verify the validation of your Microsoft account. Please try to open the default browser: IE11 and navigate to https://account.microsoft.com/about, sign in with your account, if it is successful, which means the issue is not caused by the account.

If so, make sure you already set IE11 as the default browser, add the following sites to your IE trusted site: IE—Internet Options—Security—Trusted Sites, then reopen VS and check this issue again.

    https://app.vssps.visualstudio.com/profile/view

    https://login.microsoftonline.com

    https://login.live.com

If this issue persists, there are some factors that affect the VS sign in, please have a try with the following to troubleshot this issue:

    1. Run the vs with safe mode:  open the VS 2015 installation location, usually locates C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE and run the commands: devenv /safemode. If it works fine that means the installed extensions may be corrupted the VS, please go to Tool—Extensions and Updates… and remove all installed extensions one by one to find the culprit.
    2. Go to Control Panel-Programs and Features and right click the VS item, Change-Repair to repair VS.

    Best regards,

    Sara
