Hyper-V VM's have no Internet access RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

Recently I rented a dedicated windows 2012 server to host virtual machines on. However these virtual machines don't have internet access, it doesn't matter how I configure the virtual switch.

The guest VM's always have APIPA addresses.

The host VM has a single NIC. And its IP address (using ipconfig) is also the external ip address ( How would I set this up. I've tried almost anything...

If someone could point me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you in advance!

    Best regards,

  • in order to use internet from VMs, you need to create external switch and have to find that with host machine NIC.

if you follow above procedure, all of your host machine's nic configuration will migrated to a virtual NIC adapter (a virtual nic gets created on host when we create external switch (network) on hyper-v

that's how you will be able to use internet on VMs

if your VMs are getting APIPA address assigned. may be you not assigned any manual ip address to VMs or may be there are some hidden tunnel adapters available on VMs

if you want i can help you by remote access

dont forget to mark as asnwer
