Custom Font aachencomweb not working in windows 8.1 RRS feed

  • Question

  •  Hi

I have created a windows store application which uses font aachencomweb-bold.ttf  ,  The font style is not coming while running the application. however i tried other customfonts like helvetica  it is coming. The font is detected by visual studio from assets folder in the solution. but it is not coming when i set the fontfamily textblock.

      <TextBlock Foreground="{StaticResource commonColor}" Height="123" Margin="10,2,0,0" TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="75°C" VerticalAlignment="Top" FontSize="96" FontFamily="Assets/aachencomweb-bold.ttf#Aachen Com Web Bold" FontWeight="ExtraBlack" d:LayoutOverrides="HorizontalAlignment"/>

Can anyone help on this ? is it because it is a webfont.

  • There's lots of information on the web about this:

    http://www.bing.com/search?FORM=WLETDF&PC=WLEM&q=using+a+custom+font+windows+8+store+app&src=IE-SearchBox

If you can't figure it out, please put your app on OneDrive and share a link to it here.

NOTE: If I ask for code, please provide something that I can drop directly into a project and run (including XAML), or an actual application project. I'm trying to help a lot of people, so I don't have time to figure out weird snippets with undefined objects and unknown namespaces.

  • Hi Matt

I have tried all these .  I have shared a sample code can you check and confirm.

I have attached the link for the sample code in skydrive,

    Download

    https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=AAA2A33D9C4F7026%211465

I have placed the font in Assets folder of the application , the font name is aachencomweb-bold.ttf

The Expected behaviour when this font is assigned is below .

But when used in windows 8.1 this font is not refecting.

In the sample i have used two textblock one with font aachencomweb-bold.ttf and another with font Helvetica-Neue-LT-Com-95-Black.ttf   the second one is coming correctly.

  • Hi Matt,

The font is a custom font which has licenses, so if the font has licenses will it be a issue ?

  • It might.  Do you have a license for it?

  • End User License Agreement

    Letraset Standard License Agreement

This Agreement constitutes the complete agreement between you, the Licensee, and Letraset Ltd
    (Letraset)), the Licensor.

    1. Grant of License. In consideration of payment of the license fee, included in the price paid by the
Licensee for this product, the Licensor grants to the Licensee a non-exclusive right to use this product,
which consists of electronic data to display and output PostScript¨ and/or TrueType¨ typefaces. This
electronic data may be installed on up to five* (5) CPUs at a single site, provided that the Licensee has
access to only one (1) high-resolution typesetting or imagesetting/output device. A separate Special

than five (5) CPUs or with more than one (1) high-resolution typesetting or imagesetting/output device.
(See Special Multi-User License Notes below).

When you order Fontek fonts through www.Letraset.com, you are able to purchase your Multi-User

    1 (a). Special Multi-User Licenses

Letraset calculates Special Multi-User Licenses based on the chart below. The price Letraset charges you
will be calculated based on the Recommended End User Price times the number of CPUs and/or high-
resolution typesetting or imagesetting/output devices (whichever is the greater).

EXAMPLE By entering quantity 3 in your shopping basket against any one particular font, you will be
purchasing a license that will allow use of that font on up to 50 CPUs connected to up to 10 output
    devices on a single site.

Each additional site is calculated as a new Special Multi-User License. The maximum number of CPUs
licensed is equal to the number of users selected in the applicable receipt.

Number of CPUs Number of Output Devices License Multiplier
    1-5 1 1
    26-50 10 3
    51-75 15 4
