create a workflow for a sharepoint list RRS feed

  • I used SharePoint Designer and created a workflow for a list and made some permissions : the managers group full control and employee group can only create a new item but cant edit.

    I want to:

    1. Give the the managers  permission to view the employee item in the list and edit it .
    2. The employees should on be able to create a new item and view his own items only

  • Hi Sarah,

    1. For assigning permissions via SPD 2007 workflow you cannot do it. This is supported in SPD 2010 Workflow using Impersonation Steps. ("Add Permissions to users" action). But as you mentioned above that you have assigned them "Full Control" then the managers will be able to view and edit items in list. Just confirm that your Full Control permission level has "Manage Permissions" check box enabled.

    2. The employee can view only their own item by editing the views. Go to the list/library, click Library tab on the ribbon and select Modify View and do the following as given in image. You may also create your own custom view and set it as default.

    You can create a view that only show one employees' own items and delete the default view for the emplyee. Then the employees can only view his own items.

    It seems that you cannot assign create only permission by OOTB SPD workflow. You may create an event handler and break the permission of the created item to accomplish your requirement.
