[MS-PST] Suggestion for documentation RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • [MS-PST] — v20100218 "Outlook Personal Folders File Format (.pst) Structure Specification" Section 2.2.2.6 "HEADER" has a couple of CRC fields. It would be useful if each of them had a link to Section 5.3. It isn't obvious (until you find section 5.3) what the CRC algorithm is.

  • A little more:
1.3.2.7 "Free Map (FMap)" has a reference to Section 1.3.1. That should probably be Figure 3 (in Section 1.3.2).

1.3.2.8 "Free Page Maps (FPMap)" has a reference to Section 1.3.1. That should also probably be Figure 3 (in Section 1.3.2)

In section 2.2.2.7.2 "AMap (Allocation Map) Page ", there is a paragraph that reads:
"An AMap is allocated out of the data section and, therefore, it actually "maps itself". What this means is that the AMap actually occupies the first page of the data section and the first byte (that is, 8 bits) of the AMap is always 0xFF, which indicates that the first 512 bytes are allocated for the AMa p."
I think that is misleading, because for the ANSI case, the dwReserved field is always set to 0x00000000.
Perhaps AMap in that paragraph needs to be AMapBits, or change "...the first byte (that is, 8 bits) of the AMap is always 0xFF.." to something like " ..the first byte (that is, 8 bits) of the AMap data following dwPadding (if present) is always 0xFF ..."
