OneDrive and MS Access Backend/Frontend Configuration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does OneDrive properly handle an MS Access Frontend - Backend environment?  The Backend Access file resides in OneDrive, with the Frontend Access file on the users Desktop linked to the Backend?  Will there be Syncing issues?

Are there other low-cost approaches to accomplish a multiuser - one database backend environment I should consider?

    TIA,

  • Hi Pat,

I don't have any test data to back it up, but I doubt any "cloud" drive hosting service (e.g. OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.) would be a good setup for a split Access database application.

If I understand it correctly, OneDrive syncs the files between the cloud and your desktop. So, it might be possible the FE is connected to the local copy of your BE. If you have two users using the app at the same time, you're both updating your local copies. When OneDrive syncs up the files, there could be some possibilities of conflict.

    Just my 2 cents...
