QueryContextAttributes using SECPKG_ATTR_SESSION_KEY with NTLM always fails with 0x80090308 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm writting an application using SSPI, and NTLM as the provider. I need to recover the seesion key, but everytime I try I get 0x80090308.

I now the context handle is good because a prior call to QueryContextAttributes using SECPKG_ATTR_NEGOTIATION_INFO works just fine.

I'm running this test on XP SP3, and the process is running as an admin acount.

    Why is this failing?

    Thanks

  • I had the same issue under XP / Server 2003.

The same code runs fine under Windows Vista and Windows 7.

I'm getting the impression that in Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 the session key is not directly accessible through SSPI, and instead SSPI methods such as MakeSignature, VerifySignature, EncryptMessage and such are used by the caller.
