Can I create a new website in IIS with a .NET web setup project? RRS feed

    Hello,

Basically, I would like to configure my web setup project to create a new website in IIS rather than simply creating the virtual directory.  Does anyone know if this is possible?

    Thanks.

    Hi FredEH,

Based on my understanding, you have created a web setup project. What you want to do is install the web application to a special directory and create a new website for it instead of the virtual directory.

Based on my research, I think we can achieve this by overriding the “Install” class to create a website against the special installed directory.

For example, we can first install the web application to a special directory, such as “c:\inetpub\website2”, and then create a website against this folder. For more information, please refer to the following links:

    Hi Benson,

    regarding post at: http://forums.asp.net/p/1154573/1900398.aspx

I found your post helpful in the ASP.NET Forum but the link you provided  to "create a Website in IIS" is broken.  I can't find the appropriate info anywhere.  Could you please redirect me to the updated link or resource?

    Greatly appreciated Smile
