Bing Maps website vs Bing Maps layer in HTML for China RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all

Apologies if this has been asked before.  I've searched the forums and searched the internet for an answer.

I'm playing around with Bing Maps to make a dynamic HTML webpage map.  Looking at the official Bing Maps website here: https://binged.it/2d2bGAf you can see that there are roads and labels for a city in China.

However, when I make a basic HTML webpage with the Bing Maps layer, none of this data appears for China cities.  Major roads are shown but that's about it.  An example is here:  https://www.bing.com/maps/embed/Customize.aspx  You will need to navigate to a Chinese city to see the absence of data.

Does anyone know why this is the case?  Does anyone have an solution?

    Thanks very much in advance.

  • The detailed China data is only available in the Bing Maps V8 developer API and not in previous versions of Bing Maps (embedded maps currently us V7). If you use the Bing Maps V8 developer API in your webpage you will be able to see the detailed data in China. Here are some developer resources:

    http://www.bing.com/api/maps/sdk/mapcontrol/isdk

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/mt712542.aspx

    https://github.com/Microsoft/Bing-Maps-V8-TypeScript-Definitions

And if you prefer to develop using TypeScript, we have definitions for V8 available here: https://github.com/Microsoft/Bing-Maps-V8-TypeScript-Definitions

  • Hi Ricky

Thanks very much for your prompt and detailed response.  I really appreciate it.  I will check out V8 now.

  • Hi,

Is there any chance the Bing Map REST Imagery service start using the detailed tiles from CHINA in future ? Or is there any API for .NET (WPF) for accessing this detailed tiles we see in Bing Map V8 SDK ?

    Thanks,

  • The rest services currently use static map tiles and hasn't yet been upgraded to use the dynamic tile service used by the bing maps v8 control. The rest services will likely be updated in the next six months. The Chinese tiles will likely be available then, assuming there are no legal restrictions with doing so.

  • Is there any update on this? Currently it looks like there is no way to access tile services using v8 of Bing Maps. Our platform accesses the Bing Maps REST API and we are now getting more and more people asking why they can't get the data they need.

  • Wow! Thank you so much for all of your help.

I'll be in contact with our MS rep, maybe they can actually give me some clearer information on what we can do in the meantime.
