  • Where did it come from? Knowing the origin is often key to understanding the error.

    0x80000081 doesn't look like a valid HRESULT and so could mean anything.

    As Sheng Jiang notes error 129L (0x81) is ERROR_CHILD_NOT_COMPLETE, but mapped normally to an HRESULT it would use FACILITY_WIN32 to get 0x80070081
