Metro applications not running

    Question

  • I've upgraded a 32bit instalation of Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 and desktop applications are running fine, but I can't start any Metro application apart from Control Panel. Not even Internet Explorer.

Is anyone having the same problem?

  • Seeing how your Asus Eee PC 1000h has a native resolution of 1024x600, I would be safe to say that that is the reason why you are not able to run any Metro UI apps.

  • Do you have a netbook?

If you have a netbook with a 1024x600 screen Metro apps will not run. 1024x768 is the minimum for Metro apps.

Several people have reported that they can be run in you connect an external display that is 1024x768 or larger.

You can try this modification to allow higher resolutions:

  • Hi Paulo,

On top of the screen resolution, make sure that UAC is not disabled.

  • Never work with it disabled!

  • I'll have to try it. Thanks.

It's an ASUS 1000H originally with Windows XP. On XP it did have a graphics driver that allowed a 1024x768 mode with panning, but it never worked on Windows 7. I'll have to see if they have any BIOS/drivers recent updates for Windows 7.
