strange update error (works if importing into SSAS tabular) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

    hope some1 can help

the thing is I can´t make update powerpivot, it raises a generic error. Tried to import into ssas tabular and worked fine.

Is there any way to get a better error detail or debug it someway?

    best regards!

  • Hi Txeriff,

According to your description, you are experiencing the error when refresh data in your PowerPivot workbook, right?

The error message is misleading and it is happening due to using wrong table name or you dropped some table which is referring in SQL query/view/stored procedures. For this issue, please refresh each sheet manually without using refresh all option. By doing this you will find exactly which sheet has issue in refreshing. Once you get the error while refresh, try to execute SQL script or stored procedure and fix the issue.

If this issue still persists, please try to reinstall SQL Server PowerPivot for Excel to see if this helps. You can try to use a trace file to troubleshoot errors in PowerPivot. For more information, please see:

  • Is this a PowerPivot update in Excel or a PowerPivot update in Sharepoint?

What is the exact text of the error message?

  • its into excel, no sharepoint.

    it just says

"can´t update connection. go to existing connections and check that they connect to file or server"

of course if I go there I can do the test properly or edit the table, it shows data. problem just happens when clicking refresh. it worked by importing excel file to ssas tabular.

    no clue.

  • Hi,

thanks for the help. I already did that before coming here and it seems working for each table when editing and saving changes.

OK I will try to reinstall.

    thanks
