Any way to retrieve the edition of Windows?

    Question

  • Hi. I am migrating an app from classic to metro. In my classic app I gather the information about which edition of Windows the user is using (I don't do any UI changes based on this information). Is there any way to get this information from Metro environment? How do I know if the user is using a Professional or Enterprise (or whatever the editions is available for Windows 8).

    Thank in advance

  • Hi Lex,

No you cannot do this.  You do not need to do this either since Metro style apps will run the same regardless of the verision.

  • But it looks like with user agents you can find out what kind of app it is (HTML5/C++, etc) using the user agent. So your Metro app could find out some little things, even thought the walls of the sandbox are high :)

  • i have never seen any app on Windows that do different thing depending on what your OS version is. So i don't think i will see one on Metro.

  • I am curious what you would be using that information for.
