Unable to Login after reboot

    Question

  • I have installed Windows Developer Preview 64-bit, and was able to access both the Metro UI and desktop.

I then went to Windows Update and downloaded/installed all available updates, which requested a reboot.  After the reboot, all I was able to see was a green (Metro UI I am assuming) page with the Ease of Access button on the bottom-left, Shut Down button on the bottom-right, and 'Windows Developer Preview' in the middle in white text.  No user tile to click, and no key combo (including ctrl-alt-del) would cause the PC to respond.  I did have a visible mouse, but neither button responded to any clicks.

I then hard shutdown my PC, and restarted.  This brought up the Windows 7-esque login screen, with the same buttons and text.  Ease of Access does not respond to clicks, but the Shutdown button does.  Multiple restarts give the same login screen without any user tiles to select.

I did setup with a Windows Live ID, and verified that I have network connectivity.

  • Repairing the OS does allow for me to login, but when updates are applied, I get the same behavior.

There is an update for my Video Card, which I though could be causing the issue, but when I applied updates and removed the driver, it still behaved the same.

Just hide the update for video driver and update the rest.
