  • Currently have a test VM Server using hyper-v. Planning to purchase a hefty production VM server and run ~6 infrastructure VMs on it.

On the test VM server, I have created some VMs to mimic how I will use the production VM Server.

My question is: how do I back these VMs up in case my VM Server crashes – I don’t want to lose all 6 VMs. I tried disk2vhd (I know – not supported) to copy the VMs like I do physical machines, but they won’t boot – unlike the .VHDs created from the physical machines.

Disk2vhd seems a great way to make a “snapshot” of a functioning server so it can be brought up quickly as a VM in case the physical machine crashes. Is there an equivalent for a VM?

    Thanks,
