invalid entries passed to /FilterFeatureSelectionTree switch

    Question

  •      Hi,

I have been working with visual studio and have been attempting to install Python Tools for it. But whenever I click on New Project> Install Python Tools for Visual Studio> Install, it comes up with an error message:

invalid entries passed to /FilterFeatureSelectionTree switch.                                                     Please make sure you have an internet connection, and retry                                                           your oporation. For more details, please see the setup log.

I have tried the instructions here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3039361#bookmark setupblocked

These instructions informed me to "run the following command:

    VS2015.1 RC.exe /overridefeeduri <Path to feed.xml>

     "

These instructions are well and good, except for the fact that they do not specify where I am supposed to "run the following command". This does not help me. Am I supposed to run the command on a C++ compiler, or Ruby? I tried the Visual Studio command prompt, and got the error:

The syntax of the command is incorrect.

I have gotten this far, and am stuck. I would be obliged to any help given.

         Thanks in advance!

  • Hi THE0DEN,

    >>1) it's not work: more new version (?) of PTVS already installed

Do you mean you have installed another version of PTVS or you want to a higher version of PTVS?

If you have installed another version of PTVS, I suggest you uninstall and re-install the link I provided which solve my problem.

If you want to a higher version, according to the release PTVS, the 2.2 version should be the highest version.

    >>2) There is error in command:

The VS2015.1 RC.exe is means the Visual Studio 2015 Update 1 RC version installation file. And now the Visual Studio 2015 Update 1 release version has published. Please download it from below link. So you need to input VS2015.1.exe /overridefeeduri <Path to feed.xml>

  • Hi THE0DEN,

I get the same error message when I try to install Python template in Visual Studio 2015 with and without Update 1. I suggest you post this problem to Visual Studio Connect to feedback this problem.

    https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/Feedback/LoadSubmitFeedbackForm?FormID=6240

For this problem, I fixed with install Python Tools for Visual Studio 2015 separately from below link. After then I can create Python project with Visual Studio 2015 now.

  • Hi Weiwei,

    1) it's not work: more new version (?) of PTVS already installed

    2) There is error in command:

    VS2015.1 RC.exe /overridefeeduri <Path to feed.xml>

Maybe RC.exe = Microsoft Resource Compiler?  But not. Maybe right command

    VS2015.1.exe /overridefeeduri <Path to feed.xml>

File VS2015.1.exe in my case located here:

    c:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{fcaa9dba-9438-48b6-ad91-4e9b4cc7084a}\

but option /overridefeeduri is not supported.

    Best regards
