Change appearance of buttons in customUI Ribbon (application level addin) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am maintaining an application level addin custom Ribbon in Word 2007. I am adding a new Tab and would like to change the appearance (somehow by font or bolding, etc.) of the buttons on the right side in a separate group than the left side so that they visually appear different. I am currently only using a label change designation from using a "-FF" to a "-CL" at the end of each label and I feel this is not enough for users to understand their are two entirely different auto text insertions for each type of FF and CL. Hopefully, my image is below that shows the right side buttons I need to change in a red box. I have vb code for functions and use an XML file for building the buttons.

  • Hi Jensina

I'm afraid there's no way to make button labels bold, or a different color. You could perhaps use icons?

  • Unfortunately, there may be additional butons later and I believe I can only fit so many icons....we might have to split it up into two tabs but we hoping not to have to do that. Thanks for the quick reply! I've done a fair amount of research already and I was afraid this would be the final answer.

  • THe only other thoughts that occur to me would be to shorten the names/labels - you could put more information in the "tip" attributes, or put the selections down a level in a menu or gallery...

  • Thank you Cindy! I did make use of the screentip and supertip which my customer loved. He seemed to think the target audience would be okay with the way it looks now. Many thanks for replying!
