  • I will continue publishing the next versions of Small OS, but now they have changed form. I've converted Small OS from Small Basic to C#, to get the benefits of running it on a real simulator (or maybe, in future, on real hardware) based on the .Net Micro Framework.

600 lines of script code changed to 4500 lines (and growing) of real object-oriented code that take the benefits of full control over the workflow. Primitive text settings file was converted to a XML Registry, Users are kept in a REAL database (now, their passwords are hashed for security purposes). Now to run programs, I use the System.Reflection namespace, and I control the runtime via threads.

It's kinda weird, that a sample idea that started out of boredom, developed into a real and touchable project that I plan to run (in the nearest future) on a ARM processor.

  • I must admit that I was very surprised.

    There are errors:

When typing flush-saved-data the saving thread locks the prefetching mechanism and if Your app uses prefetching (app.usingSharedLibrary, app.uploadSharedLibraryAtSystemStart) it can't be run.
Typing disable-system-mechanic-login cancels logging from the current terminal and from network terminals, but if You have a auth key on a flash disk it will allow You to login (rethink the System_Authority_Terminal_IsValidLogin(UserName, Password, Source, COntrolMode).
    process-kill im(process-kill) kills the system

The FTP server is cranky! - I had to reconnect six times.

  • I think, you should buy this device and install your OS on it.

"Microsoft .NET Gadgeteer" - it has ARM processor and .NET Micro framework installed.
