SDK availability for Universal Apps / Windows 10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is there news about a release of the SDK to create Universal Apps using Kinect ONE? I'm currently targeting a Windows 8.1 Store app but would love to create a Universal app. Don't need to run it on a phone though; I know it would be hard to find a compatible USB 3-port on that :-)

Hoping for a better answer than 'we don't have anything to share at this time', yours truly,

    Bart Roozendaal

  • The Kinect v2 SDK does not support UWP, so you will need to continue targeting Windows 8.1 store apps for Kinect development. Any announcement about future support (if/when) will appear on the K4W blog.

  • +1 from me ... just started down this road and it won't compile ... looks like I'll need to switch to WPF for now

Invalid framework identity 'Name = Microsoft.WindowsPreview.Kinect.8.1, MinVersion = 2.0.1410.19000'. It is expected to have three parts delimited by a comma.

  • Do you have an estimated date for a UWP version of Kinect SDK?

  • Hi Angela.  Thank you for your helpful response.  I sincerely hope that Microsoft brings forward an API that is largely compatible with the existing Windows 8.1. Kinect API.  All too often Microsoft reinvents an API or technology without adding value.  I'm hoping Microsoft can break this trend and carry forward the already fantastic APIs in Kinect v2 into Windows 10 UWP.
