"Add Connected Service" utility not working in Visual Studio 2019 RRS feed

  • Question

  • The "Add Connected Service" utility in Visual Studio 2019 is not working.  Each time I try to use the utility I get an error dialog box that says . . .

"The Connected Services component 'Device Connectivity with Azure IoT' failed: (HRESULT:0x80131522) Method "OnSelectedAccountChangedAsync' in type "AzureIoTHubConnectedSerivce.IoTConnectedServiceSinglePageConfigurator' from assembly 'Microsoft.AzureSphere.AzureIoTHubConnectedService.V16, Version=1.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' does not have an implementation.

This error occurs as soon as you click on the link "Device Connectivity with Azure IoT."

This feature on Visual Studio 2017 works without any issues.

  • For anyone running into this issue, here's a post that details how to manually add the bits that the "Add Connected Service" utility adds to the app_manifest.json file.

  • Just to confirm: I ran into the same issue with VS 2019 (don't have VS 2017, manually editing the app_manifest.json solved the problem). And was mentioned by others Hackster forum.

    My setup:

    • Win10 Pro 1809 (Hungarian)
    • VS 2019 Community 16.2.3 (initially not logged in to VS at all, was still on "trial". But tried logging in & restarting VS. Didn't help)
    • Azure Sphere 19.5.4.53731

  • Same here, VS2017 works, VS2019 not.

  • @ BAWilless @jni3373 Just to confirm, does editing app_manifest.json solved the problem?

  • Of course you can manually add all the bits necessary to connect your application to DPS and the IoT Hub to the App_manifest.json file.  The original report is to inform Microsoft that the "Add Connected Service" utility in VS2019 does not work.

  • I am encountering the same issue. VS 2019 throws an exception when using connected service Tab for DPS/IoT Hub
