Is it possible to have calculated fields in MDM ? RRS feed

  • Can we have a calculated fields in entiity created in master data management?

    For example how to create a field for HRA = 0.4 * Basic

  • Good question.. I don't see a way to do this. I tried creating a new entity with the MDS plug in for Excel where one of the Excel columns was define by a calculation but the MDS entity was populated with the value calculated by excel. It did not create a calculated field. I also tried creating a buisness rule in MDS but I do not see an option to assign a value to an attribute based on a calculation. I am going to say you can't unless you modify the actual MDS tables which I believe is not recomended. Hence the MDS team made subscription views available to give people means to read and insert data without touching the MDS tables directly.

    I work around could be to have to entities. One where the user publishes the raw data then have an ETL extract data from that table do the calculations and insert the data on entity number 2.

    Would love to hear other's thoughts..
