I have seen a lot of syntax mismatch between src="http://ecn.dev.virtualearth.net/mapcontrol/mapcontrol.ashx?v=7.0" and src='http://www.bing.com/api/maps/mapcontrol?callback=GetMap'. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Could you help me by giving basics syntax study material or link for src='http://www.bing.com/api/maps/mapcontrol?callback=GetMap'.

  • About 2/3rds of the V8 SDK has been documented so far: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt712542.aspx You can also find interactive code samples here: http://www.bing.com/api/maps/sdk/mapcontrol/isdk

Currently the new V8 SDK is about 80% backwards compatible with V7. We are working to bring this closer to 90%. The last 10% of the syntax has been changed and/or dropped as it is no longer needed, made things more complicated than they need be, or consisted of things that were rarely used. We plan to provide a V7 to V8 migration guide by the end of June. Note that a lot of V7 syntax is still supported in V8 but may not be documented as there are better ways to do things in V8. You can continue to use V7 syntax but if you are writing a new app you will find that the changes in V8 require a lot less code. For example, when adding an array of shapes to the map in V7 you had to loop through each shape and add it one by one to the map, in V8 you can still do this, or you can simply pass the whole array with one line of code.

The URL is one of the biggest changes. Virtual Earth is an old name for Bing Maps that changed in 2009. There are also a couple of new URL parameters available as well which provide a lot more functionality than what was available in V7.
