  • Win XP3 Add/Remove Programs lists .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0. Occasionally I get an icon in systray that says a network connection is disconnected. Computer is stand-alone. I'm trying to free up HD space. Can I remove those 2 programs?

  • If you have a NIC on the "standalone" computer and the  device is not disabled, you will get the alert you mention. If you are annoyed by the alert, you can try disabling the device in your BIOS and/or through Device Manager.

To address the .NET Framework issue: The frameworks were probably installed to sopport allpication software you are using (many current Windows applications require the managed environment provided by the .NET Framework(s)). If you remove them, you risk having programs stop working.

Rather than risking loss of functionality, I'd recommend that you ask about safe ways to recover disc space in a Windos XP forum here:
