Maximum path length RRS feed

  • Windows api calls historically limit the MAX_PATH to 260 characters.  NTFS actually supports many more then that.  And while you can get around this with many of the W (unicode) API calls by prependind your path with the string \\?\ - it doesn't work with all paths.  For this reason, the .NET framework specifically disallows you to pass in a path with \\?\.  There are work arounds, involving some p/invoke.  If your intersted, I can dig them up - but, if you google MAX_PATH and .NET then your sure to find some already on line ;)
