    Hi,

I wanted to know what is meant by idle time. If my sessiontimeout is 20 minutes in web.config and i am doing data entry for 21 minutes without posting back then will the session expire?. Does that mean that i need to postback (click the submit button) before 20 minutes for my data to be saved ?

Please help with the definition of idle time for a layman

    Regards

    Sanjish

Correct, if the user didn't make any post back or opened any other page on the site within 20 minutes, the user's session will be lost.

If the 20 minutes is not enough, you can expand session timeout in web.config:

         <sessionState timeout="40"></sessionState>

Or you can register ajax script that will call the server automatically every period of time to keep the session.see this for example.
