R in ADLA script

    Question

  • Hello,

Is there any information on locally running USQL scripts which contain Python or R functionality and the source code for ExtR dll?

I have downloaded the associated DLLs and tried to register ExtR with the master Catalog.

The assemblies are located locally in this folder as they are in Azure Data Lake Storage.

    %APPDATA%\Local\USQLDataRoot\usqlext\assembly\R

    • DynamicInterop.dll
    • ExtR.dll
    • RDotNet.dll
    • RDotNet.NativeLibrary.dll
    • R.3.2.2.2.zip

The error when running a script referencing ExtR_PredictUsingLinearModel_RCommand.usql or the Simple example.

"Could not load file or assembly 'RDotNet, Version=1.6.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

    The assembly registration script.

    USEDATABASE [master]; DROPASSEMBLYIFEXISTS  [ExtR]; CREATEASSEMBLY [ExtR] FROM@"usqlext/assembly/R/ExtR.dll"WITHADDITIONAL_FILES = (@"usqlext/assembly/R/DynamicInterop.dll"AS"DynamicInterop", @"usqlext/assembly/R/RDotNet.dll"AS"RDotNet", @"usqlext/assembly/R/RDotNet.NativeLibrary.dll"AS"RDotNet.NativeLibrary");

It is looking for the RDotNet.dll and other DLLs in bin\Debug\746497AC301DE513\RDotNet.dll

It is looking for the R zip file in SimpleSample_8352C21FDE52D4F2

If I place the files there manually it appears to work, however it requires placing the R zip file each time it builds the script.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

  • Dear Andrew,

R/Python for U-SQL script local run is not supported currently, it is in our plan. We are targeting to release the ADL Tools for Visual Studio which supports that before June.

    Thanks,

    Yanan

  • Is this still true that R/Python is not available for local running?
