Other Project Types folder is empty when I try to add new project

    Question

  • I'm trying to add a setup project for my application, but this project type is missing.

I followed these steps but it doesn't change a thing:

    1. Go to Tools>>Import and Export Settings>>Reset all settings>>Choose yes or no to save current settings>>
    2. Then choose Visual C# Development Settings or General Development Settings.
    3. So that you can have templates you need.

Please Help! I'm running out of time and need to have this solved quick

BTW I haven't reinstalled VS yet, but should I?

  • Hi,

The Other Project Types folder shouldn't be empty.

At the very least it should contain the Visual Studio Solutions folder (which provides the Blank Solution template). If this folder is missing, you can try:

    1) How to: Restore Default Project Templates

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms247116(v=vs.100).aspx

    2) Repair / Reinstall Visual Studio.

Also, notice that VS 2017 doesn't provide yet the Enable InstallShield Limited Edition that previous VS versions provided.
