[W8.1][JavaScript] Billable transaction with Non-REST Bing map API RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

we are implementing Bing maps within our application and we want to be completely sure that our transaction management is as optimal as possible.

Based on this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/34568.bing-maps-v6-3-to-v8-migration-guide.aspx document, there is an explicit way to manage sessions when using REST API mentioned in "Optimizing Transactions with the REST services" part of the document.

However, we are not using the REST API calls. We are using Bing API framework classes such as SearchManager and DirectionManager. There is nothing like session management mentioned regarding usage of these classes.

Our main question therefore is: Do these classes implicitly use these sessions in optimal way? Are we supposed to make some explicit calls to framework if they don't? Or are the REST API calls the only way to use sessions?

    Thank you

  • All modules built into the Bing Maps API automatically make use of sessions. You don't need to do anything to enable this. The only exception is when you use the autosuggest module without a map. In that case you have to pass in a bing maps key when loading it. It then created its own session after the user selects a suggestion just in case you want to let the user to make multiple queries with autosuggest.
