SharePoint 2013 Apps? Internal Apps and external Apps? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to know the importance and the benefit of SharePoint apps.

How do we add external apps in  my  SharePoint 2013 test or dev environment? Do we need to buy the licience?

Where the inbuilt apps stored and the 3rd party apps will be stored?

I request you to please explain me in short and simple. How its good for any organization?

    Please share your thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Ronan

  • The big thing about apps is that they allow you to run code outside the SharePoint farm, thereby causing no threat to the direct stability and performance of the farm.

External apps costs: depends on the app. Sometimes, there's a trial version, sometimes it's free, at other times you will have to pay for it.

Where it's stored depends on the app. Options are:

    - No hosting (for SharePoint artifacts such as a button)

    - Hosted in dedicated App Web (a special kind of SharePoint site that can't be modified)

    - Dedicated application server (on premises)

    - In the cloud
