How to related VM Speed between IOPS and MBPS RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to understand how to relate IOPS speed per disk attached with VM and network mbps speed. For an example IOPS 6400 = how much mbps speed ? Is there any formula to calculate it ?

  • Hi,

I'm afraid there are no formula to calculate it, even if there is some relation between IOPS and MBPS.
(I suppose the relation exists somewhat.)

"MBPS" is a unit for data translation speed/volume. On the other hand "IOPS" is a unit for storage performance.Do you think MBPS will be doubled if IOPS is doubled?
Comparing MBPS with IOPS is something like comparing length with weight.

  • Hello Mondal,

I found this formula from an FAQ document. Hope this helps.

IOPS = (MBps Throughput / KB per IO) * 1024

  • After going through few docs, I have come to result as below.

1 IOPS = 0.015 MBPS. For an example 12800 IOPS = 192 MBPS. Please correct me if any concerns.
