    Can EM track video files?

Does EM recognize SMPTE time code or markers within a clip?

Can you add metadata to the header of the clip itself?

Are you asking about EM or EM Encoder Preview?

    >Can EM track video files?

Yes Expression Media (iView) can import all kinds of video files to its
catalog and then play or convert them. Supports the QuickTime formats and
    MPEG, AVI, WMV and WMP.

    >Does EM recognize SMPTE time code or markers within a clip?

Media Encoder supports markers - up to 1000 per video clip. They can be
saved out as XML and imported back. SMPTE?(unknown)

    >Can you add metadata to the header of the clip itself?

Yes Media Encoder can view and edit metadata. Has custom attributes too. It
can save this data as XML which can be imported back. Supports PRX in
    addition to XML.

Hope this helps, also look here_
