Any way to color code record results... RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a table that has (for simplicity):

    ID

    Phase (1-10)

    Task

    ID Phase Task

    1 1 1

    1 1 2

    1 2 3

    1 2 4

I'd like to see - on a single line - ID and then Tasks color coded by Phase.

    For example:

    ID  Task1 (Phase 1 - blue) Task 2 (Phase 1 - blue) Task 3 (Phase 2 - Red) Task 4 (Phase 2 - Red)

    Thanks for your help!!

Answers

  • You cannot do that in the table, but it is possible on a single or continuous form, and also on a report based on the table:

    1. Open the form or report in design view.
    2. Select the text boxes that you want to color conditionally.
    3. On the Format tab of the ribbon, click Conditional Formatting.
    4. Click New Rule...
    5. Select 'Expression Is' from the dropdown.
    6. Enter the expression   [Phase]=1   in the box next to it.
    7. Select blue from the font color dropdown.
    8. Click OK.
    9. Repeat steps 4-8 with expressions for the other values e.g.   [Phase]=2   and font color red, etc.
    10. Finally, click OK.
