HTML Help Systems with Excel-Based Apps RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have developed an Excel-based app (see www.davion.com). The app has its own Help system, which is supplied as a single Microsoft HTML Help (.chm) file. It works fine with Excel 2007 and 2010. Since earlier versions of Excel are still in use, we are about to make a version of the app available for Excel 2000/2002/2003. However, there is a problem with the help file and Excel 2003. It works, more or less, with Excel 2000 and 2002, but when it is used with Excel 2003 the tri-pane, i.e. the section of the help display containing the table of contents and index, is missing. The control normally used to hide/unhide the tri-pane is also missing. This means that the user cannot navigate away from the opening page of the help system.

Has anyone experienced this, and if so do you know what we can do about it?

  • Hi Roger,

How did you intergrate the help system to Excel 2000/2002/2003? Would you mind showing me some code snippet? I will do some research about your problem.

Please take a look at this article to see whether it can help you:
