Cannot ping default gateway RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am unable to ping the default gateway on my windows 10 vm. The ip address assigned is  192.168.1.5 255.255.255.0 and the default gw is 192.168.1.1.

Virtual network address space is 192.168.0.0/16. How do I change that to 192.168.1.0/24 ?

    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Hi Wasim,

You cant change the address space of the vNET without recreating it, however you can add a 192.168.1.0/24 subnet within that vNET and then put the VM in that subnet.

The default gateway on Azure VMs wont respond to ping as ICMP is blocked.  But if you can RDP to it and ping/connect outside of the VM then the default gateway is working.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Hi,

In Azure, default gateway is not pingable.

Address space is the super set of Subnet. You can define multiple address space for a VNET. You can add another address space 192.168.1.0/24 as another address space.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
