Azure file storage - unix compatiblity

  • It is easy enough to mount an Azure file storage share from a linux VM (just remember to pass the vers=2.1 option to mount.smbfs). It works very well but does not support things like symbolic links or hard links to files. The underlying filesystem (presumably some flavor of NTFS) supports them. I haven't tested it, but I assume that a Windows VM connecting to same Azure file share can successfully call the CreateSymbolicLink function.

Do you have any plans to improve unix compatiblity in Azure file storage on the client and/or server side? Even an incomplete solution can be very useful for some compute workloads.
