    Could you please locate and upload the corresponding setup log set(LogSet_HOSTANAME_YYYMMDD_hhmmss.cab) under %programfiles%\MicrosoftSQL Server\120\Setup Bootstrap\Log\YYYMMDD_hhmmss\ to a file share service and share the link here so we can have a better understanding about the issue?

  • For some reason a reboot of the server cured the issue? Looks like the installer wasn't "smart" enough to "know" that a reboot was required and just hung. Prior to the reboot, no CAB file existed. After successful install a CAB file does exist. Along with all of the files documented in this link: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143702%28v=sql.120%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

    Not sure if you need to see a successful set of files?

    The moral of this story; if the SQLServer2014-KB3204388-x64 hangs - reboot your server ? YMMV
